About Dr. Nonami This section is mostly about the development of the comic's concept, and how it came to be! The earliest traces of the comic go all the way back to early 2008, when I began working with the idea of a story starring a mad scientist. The plots would center on this evil genius's schemes to conquer the world, as well as his rivalry with his well-meaning but clueless superhero archenemy. Dr. Phanton, a prototypical Mechano, was set to go on adventures of mad science as he fought Captain Cool and a host of other strange characters. This basic concept evolved over time, leading to design/name changes for the would-be villain protagonist. Dr. Mechanikka, Dr. Vissen, and a slew of discarded prototypes would emerge, until finally I drew a balding man in a red labcoat with a pointy mustache- That man became known as Dr. Mechano, and appeared in a few comic strips of what was intended to be a comic starring him. However, this project never really got off the ground, and in the end, the idea was scrapped. Still, I liked the concept a lot, and by summer of 2009, I decided I wanted to reuse the Mechano character in a new project- A game. Consulting my friend Clara to draw the art and in-game dialog graphics for said game, we developed a female scientist protagonist, who would go on adventures to save the world with the power of science. However, my experience with sprites, music composition, and other things needed to make a game were lackluster. This project too folded. However, that's for the best. Because now the story is being told through the medium of a comic! In July 2009, I approached Clara with the idea of making a comic series based on my story, and in August of that year, the comic officially began! Naming our female scientist Nonami Mumei, and creating the quirky country of Mainland, Dr. Nonami officially launched, and will hopefully become an enjoyable webcomic to all those who stumble upon it. |
